Texans who will make future decisions about water — legislators, policymakers and water managers — are grappling with the challenge of better understanding the complexities of water within Texas. A group of Texas A&M University researchers is undertaking that challenge through a planned initiative, the Texas Water Observatory Network. Read More

Miller awarded prestigious CAREER grant
Dr. Miller is thrilled to announce her NSF CAREER proposal has been funded. The grant is entitled "CAREER: Science for Sustainable and Resilient Groundwater Management" and is being funded by the NSF Environmental Sustinability program. This five-year award will allow the group to futher develop its models of groundwater dependent ecosystems and create improved metrics […]
Miller, Gou, and Cohen present at AGU
Wrapping up another successful AGU Fall Meeting. Si presented her poster on "Simulating Groundwater-Plant-Atmosphere Interactions in a Semiarid Savanna," REU alumni Leland Cohen presented his titled "Hydrogeologic Processes in a Transitional Tropical Forest," and Dr. Miller presented the results of her and Andrea’s stable isotope work in Costa Rica. Group mascot Graham Miller decided to […]
Miller and collaborators awarded grant to study rainforest
We are excited to announce that our proposal, “Improving Land-Surface Modeling of Evapotranspiration Processes in Tropical Forests” was selected for funding through the Department of Energy Earth System Modeling program. The $760K+ project combines field work at the Soltis Center for Research and Education in Costa Rica with advanced modeling of transpiration in the neotropics. […]
Paper on modeling groundwater uptake published
A groundwater-soil-plant-atmosphere continuum approach for modeling water stress, uptake, and hydraulic redistribution in phreatophytic vegetation," has been accepted for publication in the journal Ecohydrology.
Miller and DuMont present at tropical biology meeting
Dr. Miller and Andrea DuMont presented their work on transpiration and groundwater at the Soltis Center at the annual meeting of the Association for Tropical Biology in San Jose, Costa Rica. Collaborator Chris Houser also gave a presentation on the REU.
Miller and Zhang present at EWRI meeting
Dr. Miller and Jingqiu Zhang presented the group’s work on reactive transport modeling at the annual congress of the ASCE Environmental and Water Resources Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Gou and DuMont receive awards from NGWA
Congratulations to Si Gou, who won the Farvolden Award at the 2013 National Ground Water Summit in San Antonio for her presentation "Understanding Groundwater Uptake by Phreatophytic Vegetation using a System Dynamics Modeling Approach." Also congratulations to Andrea DuMont, whose project "Isotopic Analysis to Determine Groundwater and Stream Water Interactions in a Tropical Forest Catchment" […]
Groundwater engineering class visits field site
Held the annual CVEN 674 class trip to the TAMU Hydrogeology Site. Each research group member hosted a demonstration station, making this the most informative, smoothest running class visit to date. (Plus the weather was fantastic!)
Gou presents work in China, Miller visits Soltis Center
This month, Si submitted her first journal article completed at TAMU, to Ecohydrology. She was also invited to present her current work at the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, where she completed her M.S. degree. Dr. Miller and friend of the group Dr. Georgianne Moore traveled to Costa Rica to repair research […]
